The air is charged with incense smell. The atmosphere is heavy. The candle lights are blurred because of the mist. Where does it come from? You do not know. You walk, slowly, despite the penumbra. Under jewel-coloured veils, you pass next to statues, imperturbable witnesses of vanished Times. A drum, deep and slow. A cymbal. In the middle of this mystical ambience, four shadows stand in front of you. Gods? Mortals? The drum stops. Two seconds of silence. And then?
Like a Kid before Christmas. The eyes full of sparkles thinking of the Holy Morning. He does not know what exactly is going to happen, he just knows it is going to be amazing. This is an accurate description of me the first time someone told me about the Chaos Squad Compilation.
My dear Metalheads,
I am very happy to introduce you to the Dark version of the Munich Child. This little metal guy is my new logo.
Do you believe in Love at first sight? First look at the person and BAM! electric shock right in your heart. You can’t take your eyes away anymore. You are charmed. If you are a great romantic, you might believe in this cliché. I do not. However, there is a way my heart can be charmed within a second. With music. A couple of notes, the time to feel the music, I do not need more to set the song or the entire album on repeat for days. It actually happened recently. Which music has been monopolizing my mp3 player for the past weeks? Stoner Rock. A particular band? Yes. Godsground.
Do you know the Epic of Gilgamesh? It is an epic poem from Mesopotamia. It is considered the first great work of literature in History, the oldest written version dates from the early second millennium before Christ. However, since the ancient societies had an oral collective memory, it is impossible to date the poem itself. The story is about two guys who, after fighting one against the other, become good buddies and travel the world to kill monsters and other divine creatures. One of them dies, and the survivor, the king Gilgamesh, starts a journey to find eternal life. According to some specialists, Gilgamesh and his epic life have influenced the most important books of our times, Homer’ Odysseus and The Bible for example. You know what else this King has inspired? A Blackened Death Metal band from Munich, Gilgamesh.
Ever wanted to visit Scandinavia? This region of the world is often seen as a Holy Land for Metalheads. The extreme scenes were and still are so dynamic, so rich. Unfortunately, a trip over there might no be possible for everyone at the moment. Don’t worry, if you cannot go to the North, the North will come to you. Some Swedish Death Metal will comfort your Metal Spirit until you can visit the Vikings. May I suggest something? Hailstone.
Face Paint. Inverted Crosses. Destruction of Crucifix. I could not have asked something more for this Gig. One more step in my journey into Black Metal. I definitely do not want to go back. Let’s go deeper in the Darkness.
“From the producer of Queen, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rolling Stones” How exciting does it sound, right? And then, Metallica, Judas Priest and Motörhead are listed as influences. This band sounds awesome!
Well, it is something I was not expecting.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Or more, I would say. How difficult is it to describe a painting? The brightness of the colors, the play of shades, or just the general feeling a picture inspires you. You can try, of course, but in order to really understand it, you need to see it, to experience it. So is Art. So is Music. So is Tanertill.
You go in without any expectations. You don’t know the band, you were there for the first one that performed. But hey, you are there, so why not listen to these guys? The room is almost empty, you are in a Youth Center somewhere outside Munich. Three guys are preparing the stage, plugging their guitars and checking the cymbals. You cross your arm on your chest, thinking “Show me what you can do”. And then, the magic happens.
