What is Metalhead in Munich?
When I started my journey into the local scene of Munich, I had no clue of its diversity and its energy. This blog was a way to keep in touch with a bunch of friends who live everywhere around this world and with whom I share the Metal passion. Through my posts, they had the possibility to have a look on what was going on in Munich, and what I was doing, as far as music is concerned. I wanted to promote these bands I was discovering by the only way I know: writing.
This is what it’s all about: Sharing. Enjoying. This is nothing professional. This is just me, a simple Metalhead, having fun, enjoying my beloved Music and making a small contribution to the scene. If you like it, or if it’s helping someone in some way, it will make my day.
Who am I?
1- I am a Metal Lover. I love it, in its entirety. Heavy, Thrash, Death, Power, Black. I don’t discriminate. I don’t really like our recent need to label and categorize everything. I enjoy the fact that bands experiment and create or define new sub-genres, but these labels we create still stay words. Words are not always accurate to describe Music, since we should feel Music, not rationalize it. You might say this song is so “Melodic Progressive post-Groove Death”, and you’re probably right. But you see, I don’t really care. If it’s good, I’m gonna listen to it, whatever the label you want to put on it. You have guessed than I am not a purist.
2- I am a French-Canadian. I write in English. I make mistakes, it’s a reality. I’ve accepted it, I hope you can do the same. Although I do write in English, don’t hesitate to communicate with me in German. It’s always a pleasure to talk Goethe’s language!
Who am I NOT?
1- I’m not a specialist. I don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of Metal, like some people do. I have not been a Metalhead for the past 60 years. Most of you know probably a lot more than me. If I write a review, I might write comparisons with things I know, but I won’t talk about the very specific sound of this demo album from this band nobody knows from 1984. If you know this kind of things, please tell me and share your knowledge. If I say some insanity, tell me. Just don’t be an asshole.
2- I am not a musician. I don’t know all the technical words to describe a tempo or a rhythm. I can’t make a difference between the sound of two brands of guitar. I’m just a Fan of what others play. But if you are a musician, and you have the patience to explain such things to me, I’ll drink your words.
3- This is the most important one. I’m not a hater. I’m not here to bash. I’m here to enjoy. If I come across a local band I don’t like, I won’t write about it. Bands work their ass off to produce something they like, something that represent who they are, something they believe in. I respect what they do despite the fact their music is maybe not my style.
That being said, there is a difference I would like to point out. If I decide to introduce you to a band, it means I like what they do, and I want you to know them. These bands do not ask me to write about their music, I am the one who decides to post something about them. However, if a band sends me some material to review, I will give my honest opinion, positive or negative. Please be aware of this difference.
